Liberal Democrats are at the forefront of cross party calls for a long-term, cross-departmental mental health plan in response to the COVID-19 crisis. "Care homes provide a home for some of the most elderly and vulnerable people right across our country, " says Cllr Dr Wendy Taylor, who speaks for Newcastle Liberal Democrats on health and social care issue . "Statistics showing that 13.5% of care homes have faced an outbreak of coronavirus are therefore incredibly worrying. Residents are in isolation in a number of Newcastle care homes. My Mum (see photo) was in a care home for the last year of her life, so I know how worrying it must be for relatives.
"It's deeply worrying that vulnerable children may not have the support they need whilst they are unable to attend school due to the lockdown," Liberal Democrat sEducation spokesperson in Newcastle Cllr Nick Cott says, responding to reports that the lockdown is putting vulnerable children at risk. "Liberal Democrats have already successfully campaigned for school meals to continue over Easter, but this is just one of the many problems vulnerable children face.
